Southern Magnolia

The Southern Magnolia- one gallon container - It can be a hard choice in choosing what trees to incorporate into your landscaping. Before making a choice it is always important to do research and become familiar with what plants and trees will perform best in the environment, the soil, and the location that you desire. There is a variety of choices out there for those looking to make a statement with the addition of a beautiful tree. One of the trees the Magnolia Grandiflora, otherwise known as the Southern Magnolia is a popular choice for many landscapers. The beauty and the hardiness of this tree have made it a favorite among many. The Southern Magnolia is native to the Southeastern United States but can thrive in both the South and the Pacific Northwest thriving best in zones 6-10.

Although the Southern Magnolia may start small and slender, they can reach 60 to 80 feet tall with canopies that reach anywhere from 30-50 feet wide.

Be sure there is ample room at the site you wish to place the tree. The root system of the Magnolia tends to spread further than most trees. Therefore, it would also be wise to not plant the tree to close to the home to allow for plenty of room for the tree to flourish. One should also plant the Southern Magnolia with the sun in mind. The tree will do best with full sun or partial shade as long as there is at least four hours of direct sunlight. In the North, one must be cautious to protect the tree from the winter sun. The Magnolia will do well in rich, loamy, moist soils and will thrive in soil that is well drained. Therefore, be sure to take this into consideration with proper irrigation in place. This tree will also grow quickly approximately 1-2 feet a year. As you will see this is a great option for those looking for landscaping that will mature quickly so that it can quickly add to the beauty of any landscaping. This magnificent tree is an evergreen with shiny green leaves that also have a distinct red appearance on the bottom of the leaves. Luckily, the leaves, for the most part, will stay year round so even in the colder months one will be able to enjoy the beauty that it offers.

One of the best things about the Southern Magnolia is the beautiful ornate flowers that display the colors of either a pristine white or ivory, that bloom in the late spring and early summer.

People often love the delightful fragrance these lovely flowers produce for all to enjoy. The blooms are cup-shaped and can grow over a foot across. The exceptional beauty of the Southern Magnolia and the ease of care, make this tree an easy choice to make any landscaping look phenomenal.

The Southern Magnolia is shipped bare root.
